Rules
Is there a limit on the number of teams that can participate?
There is no specified limit on the number of teams that can participate in the Local Tryouts. However, availability may vary depending on the capacity of each Prison Island site. Make sure to book a time at the site you want to compete at to be sure to secure a spot in the World Cup.
In all the Finals there will be a specific limited number of teams invited.
Are there any restrictions on team composition?
There are no restrictions on team composition in terms of gender or age. Teams can be mixed in any way preferred.
Keep in mind that you need to be at least 15 years old. Make sure to have your ID ready.
What are the game rules?

Can I compete in any country I’d like?
Participants in a team do not have to be nationals of the country where they compete. An individual can compete in any country they prefer.
What is the minimum age for participation?
The minimum age for participation is 15 years old. Make sure to have your ID ready.
Can you be part of more than one team?
An individual is not allowed to participate in more than one team.
How many players can be in a team?
Each team consists of exactly 3 persons. Individual competition, 2-person teams, or more than 3 members are not allowed.
Are there separate classes in the Prison Island World Cup?
Teams can be mixed in terms of gender and age in any way preferred. There is no separation into different age or gender classes. All teams compete against each other.
Who can compete?
The Prison Island World Cup is open to anyone, except: Individuals under 15 years old or current Prison Island employees, owners of Prison Island sites, or close relatives of employees or owners.
During Competition
Can we take a break during a competition and continue after a pause?
The time never stops during a competitive event. You can take a break whenever you want, but the time will continue ticking and you will miss some opportunities to score points.
Am I allowed to use my cell phone during the competition?
No, the use of cell phones or any electronic devices is not allowed during the competition, to ensure fair play and maintain the integrity of the game.
Is there a dress code for participants?
There is no specific dress code for participants. However, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for physical activities.
What happens if a cell malfunctions?
If a cell malfunctions during a competitive event, teams should notify the game officials. The staff will make efforts to repair the cell. If not possible, a manual adjustment can be made to the scores for affected teams.
- In local try-outs, extra points may be awarded if a team has not been able to attempt a malfunctioning cell.
- In all finals, points for the malfunctioning cell can be removed from all participating teams.
What happens if an individual is injured during the competition and not can continue?
We sincerely hope there will be no injuries, but if a team member not can complete a competition by any reason, the other two team members are allowed to continue to the end. But they can not bring in a replacement during the specific competitive event.
Who makes the rulings and acts as referees?
The local Prison Island staff at each site, during the competition, has the full and final decision-making authority. Complaints should be directed to the Prison Island staff, who will review and make the final decision, which cannot be overruled.
How much time do I have in the cells?
All games, including qualifications and finals, have a game time of 90 minutes.
General
Is there any financial compensation?
Teams qualifying for the World Final can apply for travel support. Travel compensation can be awarded based on specified expenses with receipts.
- The maximum travel compensation for the World Final is 400€ per person in Europe and 800€ if you travel from outside Europe to the World Final.
What are the specific conditions for the 2025 World Cup?
- Local Try-outs are scheduled from May 1st to September 20th.
- Country Finals will be held on October 18-19th and October 25-26th.
- The World Finals will be held on November 29th at Oslo, Norway.

How does the competition structure work?
The Prison Island World Cup consists of 3 stages: Local Try-outs, Country Finals, and World Final. Specific dates, sites, and qualification rules may vary between countries and years.
Are there any fees involved in participating?
There are no extra fees for participating in the event, but you still have to pay the normal entry fee for each local try-out.
How do I participate?
To register for the Prison Island World Cup, a team must first book a time at their preferred Prison Island site and then register electronically at the desk at the Prison Island site during the assigned period for try-outs.
Qualifications
How many teams are qualified for the World Finals?
Maximum 24 teams will qualify to the World finals. The two best teams from each Country Final will be invited to the World Final.
How many teams are qualified for the Country Finals?
The number of teams qualified to the Country finals will vary depending on the country and the size of the Prison Island site.
How many teams are qualified for the Local Finals?
The number of teams qualified to the Local finals will vary depending on the location and the size of the Prison Island. Contact your local Prison Island site for more information.
What happens if a qualified team can’t participate in a Local Final, Country Final or World Final?
If a qualified team to any of the finals not can or want to participate, the second best team in order will be invited.
Can we switch out team members between the competitions if a team member can’t make it to a specific competition?
Yes, but you can only replace one team member between two competitions during the whole tournament.
